In Chapter 2 the narrator tells us that Junior´s family is absolutely poor. Junior´s best four-legged friend is his dog Oscar. But the dog gets sick and they don’t have enough money to buy the medicine for Oscar. So Junior´s dad decides to shoot the dog because it´s cheaper than the medicine. Junior blames his parents, but then he realizes that they are poor as well and weren´t able to realize their dreams. Because Junior loves to express his feelings by drawing cartoons, he draws one of his parents depicting how they would look like if they had realized their dreams.

You can do it!
“Do you understand how amazing it is to hear that from an adult? Do you know how amazing it is to hear that from anybody? It's one of the simplest sentences in the world, just four words, but they're the four hugest words in the world when they're put together. You can do it.” (Arnold Spirit Junior in Sherman Alexie's "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian")-
